IGNITION

In the case of tuned engines it is indispensable to set the ignition precisely. If the ignition is too late (less than 15 degrees), a lower power yield can be expected. If the ignition is too early (more than 25 degrees), a hole in the piston is usually the result - just in conjunction with a resonance exhaust. The engine overheats.

It is very critical when mounting Vespa Pk or HP4 fan wheels on the Vespa PX. Here is a second groove, which is unfortunately a few degrees. We already had customers, who were with 34 (!!) degrees pre-ignition on the road. In order to correct this, the long holes in the ignition anchor plate must be extended.
In the case of ignition with mechanical contact, first the contact distance and then the ignition timing must be checked. A change in the contact distance again leads to an adjustment of the ignition timing.

If possible, the ignition coils / CDI should always be replaced by original components. Cheap replicas from the far east funtionieren badly.

Der Zündzeitpunkt wird mit Zuhilfenahme einer Blitzpistole kontrolliert und der Zündzeitpunkt durch Drehen der Ankerplatte korregiert bis der angestrebte Zündzeitpunkt stimmt.

Wie es beim Abblitzen zugeht kann man sich hier in einem kleinen Film ansehen. Der Motor läuft und das Polrad dreht sich. Die Blitzpistole erweckt den Anschein, daß das Polrad steht.
So können die erstellten Markierungen kontrolliert werden. Diese Zündung steht auf 18 Grad vor OT und wird auch so belassen.

These ignitions have a variable ignition timing, i. E. an adjustment over the speed. Practically this means for the engine that the ignition in the stand gas (1000 to 1500 revolutions) starts at about 25 degrees and at nominal speed (say times 7000 revolutions) down to 17 degrees. The above statement is to be understood only schematically. The ignitions partly have a different adjustment range.
